Anchors Away BH503 is a 2nd floor condo, with no elevator access. It offers an open-concept living area providing enough space for your family to sit & relax together. The kitchen is fully stocked with everything you will need to cook your catch of the day. The primary bedroom has a king size bed and the 2nd bedroom has a queen and 1 twin. Both bedrooms have their own bath. This unit is beach front with one of the best views in the complex. Oh! Did we mention the sunrises are amazing! Nestled in the golden dunes of Mustang Island, Beachhead condos have awesome gulf views. The complex amenities include a heated swimming pool, community charcoal grills, community game room, a playground, and a private boardwalk to the beach. All units have private balconies to enjoy gulf views and breezes.
Pets are not permitted in this unit and smoking is allowed outside only.
Per HOA: Before traveling to Port Aransas/Beachhead Condos, please plan the correct number of vehicles you drive in accordance to the rules below. Properly planning the correct number of vehicles prior to your departure will enhance your vacation experience:

"Arriving Before the Crowds
We stayed the first week in May. The interior was lovely, but slightly musty as it was the beginning of the season. Exterior is a little worn, but is very old school Port A for those of us who like that. Ocean view is a generous description - dune view is more accurate. In the kitchen they were short on glasses - 6 glasses and 4 cups for 5 people was a little stingy. Overall we had a great time and would go back."

"Anchors Away was great location
We had 3 of us for 5 nights (2 of those we had an additional person) in a very comfy 2 bedroom. Loved location, on back side facing dunes and walkway to beach. Nice to have our own balcony! Unit was clean and had enough essentials although we also purchased additional trash bags and cleaning materials we thought we may need. My only concern was AC. Maybe it was fixed but during day and even into the evening, although I set the thermostat down to 68 to try to cool it off, it would only cool to about 80. One bedroom cooled down but general area and one bedroom remained warm and I had to constantly live the one Dan around to stay comfortable. We called maintenance but he just said it seemed to be working://. As a result, I had some difficulty sleeping. The location is very close to everything: coffee shop, grocery, beach, restaurants. Other than the AC, it was a perfect trip! "

We had a really nice stay. Close to the beach and the property was clean. There were only a few small problems. The batteries in the thermostat were dead, the refrigerator light was burned out and a couple of dirty towels were left in the guest bathroom on the back of the door."

"Worth the Money
The beds & pillows were very comfortable. The kitchen was well supplied. The view was amazing, able to see the moon rise and the sun rise. Stairs were a bit steep up to the unit. Great access to the beach, so convenient to everything in Port A."

We loved the location and the condo was very nice.

"A Very Nice Stay
The experience was very good overall. Issues with the door lock, wi-fi, and TV were addressed in a timely manner. The TV was particularly problematic because it would go in and out all through our stay. Technicians who responded were very polite and engaging."

"Would be a good rental if no bug bomb before entering
We booked this for two nights during low season and during a week day so very quiet. Check in with Port A , giving a key , parked under the building. walked up two flights of stairs and opened into a place that was just bugged bombed ! horrible smell and had head-aces the whole time. Place need painting. Sheet very scratchy! The view is not that great, need to be up one more floor. "

"Lovely Place--but dinosaur wifi needs upgrade
Love the Beachhead. Been vacationing there for years. The only unpleasant problem is the SLOWWWWW wifi. Management needs to upgrade it. Also the pool had green water. Fortunately we swim in the gulf, not the pool, but it needs to be better maintained. "

We have stayed in Beachhead before and chose this unit based on the location. The unit was ok. The beds and furniture were comfortable. The entire unit could use some tlc. Moisture damage in bathrooms (mold in 2nd bath), worn out cabinets, rusty outside of refrigerator and dust bunnies hanging from the ceiling around the vent made the stay a little disappointing. The unit needs dishes and glasses. There were 3 glasses and 1 plastic tumbler. We had 5 guests booked. Many of the dishes are chipped. We had to purchase plastic bowls and cups.
You can't beat the view and the location. We only wish this particular unit had a little more. We would stay at Beachhead again, but perhaps another unit."

"3 days at Anchors Away felt like a month away
Thought the couch was a sofa bed; it is not. MBR could use some back out drapes, there are dusk to dawn lights right outside. (or bring a sleep mask) Traffic was heavy delaying our arrival to 5:03 pm. So had to drive across the hiway to get the keys. Thought they were going to wait a few minutes for us but nope. Other than that it was absolutely Heaven and we can't wait to come back. It was quiet, relaxing, everything we needed. bring an aux cable it you want to stream video or listen to music. There is a blender tho it's not mentioned. bring your own "church key" if you need to open cans for pouring. Would highly recommend. Will be back!"

"Nothing special
There was a certain smell the moment you walked in to this rental....we had to stop by the store to grab cleaner(fabuloso) and a candle. The back door was broke so the kids could not open or shut the door. The beds were comfy and the view was great. All in all it was ok.....I will try somewhere else next time to have something to compare it to. "

Stayed three nights at unit 503 at Beachhead. enjoyed the proximity to the beach and to town. Property was as expected. The unit we stayed in could use a little maintenance with some rust(expect some of course). Door to the balcony needs some repair and maintenance. Overall the unit was clean and met our needs. "

"Fun Place to Stay!
We've stayed at Beachhead many times when visiting PortA, but the first time in this particular unit (love the convenience of Beachhead with their direct boardwalk access to the beach, hoses and outside shower for getting the sand off everything and boardwalks to everything like the pool and back to your units. This unit was very clean, no carpet. Faces the water in one of the front units and is on the same level as the pool (so you can take the bridge across the unit closest to the pool and straight through to this building -- very convenient). It is however NOT on the top floor, so you can hear footsteps of the people above you. This unit had everything we needed to cook all our meals there, although no storage containers for leftovers (we always bring our own). There's no disposal in the sink, but does have the dishwasher, microwave, electric stove. The layout of the unit worked great for our family of 4 -- 2 twins in the front bedroom with their own bathroom and the master in the back with our own bathroom. Cable and wifi worked great too."

"Great Quaint property with a relaxing view!
We recently stayed at this property for Spring Break. As adult vacationers, it was important to us to have easy beach access, great relaxing views and full kitchen/bbq amenities. The rental is well maintained. There was four of us and we were comfortable. I would recommend this unit. The property managers, Port A Escapes for amazing to work with. Harry is now my personal "Escape Artist"!

"October 2015
The condo furniture needs to be cleaned or replaced. The bed in master was comfortable and sheets were clean. Our stay started on a Thursday-Monday. By Saturday the roaches appeared ( I guess since food is not in condo at all times.). My husband read guest book and another guest had seen them and maintenance came out and sprayed. We did not call maintenance. When we checked out I told escapes the issue. The lady in office asked if I wanted to speak to manager it may be awhile she was in meeting. I said no but left my cell number and asked for a call. 2 weeks later still waiting. Cockroaches are unacceptable and are disgusting. When I arrived home I put everything on my back porch and went through it to make sure I didn't bring any home with me. Never again will I stay at Beach Head. Sad we've stayed there quite a few times."

"Condo in Need of Some Maintenance
We stayed in the same condo three years ago and were a little disappointed this time around. We noticed roaches in the kitchen every day of our stay, the handle in the children's bathroom sink was broken so they had no cold water, the frame around the door in the master bedroom was broken, there was a sewer-like smell in the master bath throughout our stay, and some of the glasses were cracked and not useable. The water went out due to a broken line, and that was fixed within a couple of hours; however the outdoor shower was out the remainder of the day. Also, the furniture in the living room is quite more worn than I remember three years ago. I'm sure that is just general wear, but don't remember the recliner being so unstable before.
The condo has a great view and more chairs were added on the outside which was nice.
We hope that the maintenance issues will be resolved. We would like to return sometime in the future if improvements are made. "

This rental was in a great location in town, had a wonderful balcony and plenty of indoor space being a two bedroom, two bath. It would have been helpful to have better signage from the road and also to have hand soap in the unit, even if it was a very small bar rather than two make-up remover toilettes."

"Perfect place with a fabulous view
We are a family of 5. 3 kids. We LOVED this condo. The location was perfect for nightlife and also the beach. This complex was very clean with all the amenities.
The condo was clean, with great appliances and furniture. I loved sitting on the back porch and seeing the ocean over the dunes. Will try and make it back for sure!"

"Standing water
The unit was very clean upon arrival. We had a great stay. The unit was close to the boardwalk, pool, and playground. There are only a few negatives about our stay. The island had gotten a lot of rain prior to us arriving. The designated parking area for the unit was under water about 6-8 inches and the rental people were not helpful in trying to find a better area to park for our stay. No fault to the rental company or unit, but the playground was also well under water, so my 2 and 5 year old were not able to take advantage of that feature. In past we have stayed at condos/beach homes that had a washer and dryer and I really did miss that feature in this condo. The view was very nice and the unit was very quiet and private. The pool was an added bonus and we enjoyed it after a long day at the beach one day. We were the only ones there and enjoyed the view the pool had to offer as well."

"Port Aransas Beachcomber Condo
We really had a great time in Port A. What a terrific little town with friendly folks and expansive beaches. The bird watching was great. In terms of the condo itself, the porch was a total treat, the place was big enough for three and everything worked well. I do think it would be nice to just include the most basic condiments so that people don't have to buy a bunch of groceries they are forced to leave behind. Just some salt and some oil and same coffee filters would be a nice gesture. Also the customer service at the key pickup spot was a bit lacking. We couldn't find the place initially and getting any kind of directions over the phone turned out to be impossible. But other than that we really loved the place once we were in it."

"Great vacation with family
We had a wonderful stay. We stayed in another unit in Beachhead a few years ago and liked this unit much better. It has lots of nice updates (master shower, kitchen). The only thing we didn't like was the slow wireless/internet speed.
Overall this is a great place to stay--private boardwalk with short walk to the beach and a great view. I already miss the sound of the waves!!"

"Anchor's Away Condo
Stayed at Anchor's Away during the 2014 Sand Festival. The property was clean and comfortable. The only problem we had was the lack of seating for 4 adults. The condo advertises that it sleeps 5 and there are 6 chairs for the dining table, but only a loveseat and one armchair in the living room. We had to bring a patio chair from outside to accommodate seating for all 4 adults. Other than the seating problem, we had a lovely time and would stay in this complex again."

"Great Place with the view~
I really loved this unit. The view was perfect. I liked the updated space with nice furnishings. The only complaint with the unit were the beds. I am not a fan of soft beds, so it hurt my back to sleep on it. I am sure other people like the soft beds, so this is purely personal preference. The other issue I had was the late check-in. There was not an address given for the unit (on any of the paperwork). I had to figure it all out in the dark at 8:30pm. Also, not a fan of the lock boxes. Took us forever to figure out how to open them. "

"Good Stay but Not at First
Originally had us staying in 502 but the room smelled of stale cigarette smoke. We were not happy. We got moved to room 503. The room was great and made our stay a happy one. "Long overdue escape
Our little excursion was a pleasant and relaxing getaway for our family, just long enough for us to forget the real world for one day. We love the Texas coast, the one thing that could have made it better would be and extra T.V. for the kids in the bedroom to watch while the adults watch and converse in the living area watching adult programs. Next time I'll ask in prior to reservation, other than that great place! We'll be back."

We only went off of internet reviews and images of condos for rent, and were shocked to find out how great this place is once we checked in. "Mother's Day Get Away!
This was our first visit to Port Aransas and we will definitely be back! Beachhead was a fantastic place to stay! The only complaints I have are that the wifi never worked for us, there are no TVs in the bedrooms, and that the carpet in the bedrooms is old and stained and needs to be replaced. We would def stay there again though!"

"Mini Vacation
Checked in on Sunday, left Friday. I liked the condo being on the end closest to the beach. It was furnished nice and the four of us had a great time just relaxing. December is a slow time of year so never had to wait at a restaurant for dinner. There were some restaurants closed and only open on weekends but we found plenty open during the week. Will come back again this time of year."

Our children grew up coming to Beachhead in a family group of friends trip most summers. We sadly watched the property decline as we continued to return to Port Aransas with our children & grandchildren. Last year we were thrilled to see it was finally getting needed attention! Our condo was lovely, the space worked well, & location was great. Unfortunately, the refrigerator was not cooling adequately to keep food cold enough & some spoiled. We ended up having to keep ice in an ice chest for milk, cheese, & lunchmeat. WIFI never worked as advertized & staff kept trying to blame the very early brief rain we had everytime we called for assistance. "

The only thing that would have made this rental better is supplying towels we only had 4 towels in our room and were told that no daily clean towels would be provided, so the continued use of the washing machine was needed. Beds were comfortable, kitchen okay (bring your own specialty utensils or cookware). This condo was by far the nicest place we have ever rented in Port A. It has been nicely updated and has every upgrade you would want. The view was fantastic and the location was perfect for us. Our bed was very comfortable and even our bedspread smelled lovely. The gentleman at the office who booked our stay made the process a breeze. All in all, we never want to stay anywhere else."

"A Fantastic Stay
We are a family of 4 (children aged 4 & 9). Stayed for 4 x nights in Jul. Booking & check in could not be easier - no hassle, no delay, easy to find. Condo clean and exactly as pictured on the Website. Walk to the beach literally 5 mins - very safe beach, no rip tides and sandy all the way. Local area has plenty of good places to eat. We choose not to do any activities (trips etc) as the kids were so content on the beach. Ease to and from beach meant we could come and go during the day (leaving the chairs etc on the beach), which allowed us to get the kids out of the sun for a while and grab a beer before heading down for sunset and a night walk. In summary our very active kids loved the beach and the sea, and we relaxed more than ever because in terms of parenting this is easy money - loved it!"

"Wish we'd gone to Florida
Port Aransas is a horrible little fishing village. The beach is dirty brown sand packed down and hard. It is covered with rotting seaweed, jelly fish, broken glass and other trash.
The view from the condo is dried brush as far as you can see. No ocean in sight. The locals are rude and apparently not interested in tourist dollars. The police were oppressive to the point that people were referring to the island as a concentration camp.
I've been to Destin several times and it is well worth the extra few hour drive. Florida's white, soft sand and blue water are amazing. I'll never go back to Port Aransas."

The property was beautiful, clean and the managing staff was very helpful. We were disappointed on arrival to find that the spare bedroom had an outside entrance, as we have young children. Also would have liked high chain locks on the doors so it wasn't as easy for the kids to exit the condo. "

Port A Escapes was great to work with. The only thing we were disappointed in was the veiw of the dunes - we would have liked to see more water from the balcany. The condo was very nicely decorated and comfortable. Location was in town and convenient to everything we wanted to do. Would have liked to have had tv's in both bedrooms. This property may have a mold problem that needs to be checked out. Overall, the condo and our stay was very nice."

"Great Place & Great Price
I absolutely loved "Anchors Away" - it was neat and tidy and clean, and had plenty of room for my sister and I and our children. It was close enough to the beach that we didn't have to drive - we were able to carry our chairs, canopy and cooler down the boardwalk to the beach. The balcony was very nice - we had a picnic lunch out there and enjoyed the sounds of the ocean. I would definitely stay here again, and I would definitely recommend it to anybody! The value for the price was excellent!"
