Everything is clean and maintained very well. The view is impeccable and the staff was very attentive and made sure we had everything we needed. Once you get to the top 3 steps you can very much feel the temp change. We got by using the ceiling fan and provided box fans in each room but it was definitely hotter. Everyone had their own space. The rooms were huge, the living areas were large. The kitchen had everything we needed and more for utensils, pots, pans, etc. The coffee maker is a bit slow, it may be on its last legs. The only thing we were lacking were spa towels. If you plan on using the hot tub and like to wrap up after, bring some. There is a great Food City within 15 minutes that is easier and less hectic to get to. The views did not get old. The sunrise was excellent! We didn’t want to be in high traffic areas, we wanted quiet, and we got it. The only issue we had was we assumed someone would be by to get the garbage midweek and that didn’t happen. I didn’t request either so that is on me. We easily parked one large suv and a jeep, you could get another vehicle. The road coming up to the mountain is an adventure good brakes nd tires are a must." The state rep guy wasn't going to let us go in the area due to fire trucks needed in. We had driven 12 hrs and my daughter/grandkids weren’t allowed in later! Plus, my husband was a cancer patient. The turned them away and told them to get a Thanksgiving! They had been on the road for over 14 hrs. I know this wasn’t Elk Resort’s fault, but they weren’t aware of anything! I had to keep the posted for hrs. It seems like they should know this info since they have cabins and guests in the area! Plus, after we got there, there bugs in the bed upstairs! My daughter kept vacuuming and changing the bedding! The second night they were waken by something in the floor scratching and running back to the two rooms! The cabin was beautiful and view, but a nightmare where it was! Scary roads! The third night it rained all day , but had warnings to stay off roads since winds were 80 mph. You definitely didn’t want on that road up there! The first two days an alarm kept going off on patio doors if opened! Kept calling about that issue since you couldn’t open them due to it! My daughter finally figured it out and told the resort people about all the issues we had and how to turn off the alarm on patio doors! Plus, with 7 people there was one towel per person and barely any was cloths! This was very insufficient since you had kids and a hot tub! We stay with Elk Resorts years ago and was pleased! So many issues this time which is sad since such a beautiful cabin! We loved the cabin .. just not all the issues and them not having the information! I did not call and report the need, so it is very possible that someone would have come out to pick up the trash by request. The location is great, about 30 min to Gatlinburg and PF. Upon arrival, there was a garden hose running along the deck. When we spoke to someone at the office about she said maintenance would come and shut it off and get the hose. That never happened and we shut off the water so that it would not freeze and burst a pipe. Then the fireplace would not work. We called the office and she said maintenance would be by to fix it. They never came. There was no gas for the grill and it was filthy. We had to go out on Thanksgiving day to get a tank at $80. The house was dirty, dishes were wet and dirty in the cabinet, ladybugs where dead everywhere and lots alive too in the beds and tubs. The heat did not work downstairs either. We tried to call maintenance emergency # and it was busy all day long as if off the hook. Find another company to rent from this one is way below what we are accustomed to especially paying over $4000.00 for 5 days. Game floor was nice with pool table in excellent condition and Pool Ques very nicely displayed and Good working Order. Didn’t use the two tubs in the upstairs bathrooms. They were full of bugs and didn’t feel safe using them the way they were set up so high on the stairs. The two Fireplaces did not work right. Main floor one would not stay on and the one Upstairs would not shut off. Placed a maintenance call and the gentleman was able to get the one upstairs to shut off and said the main floor one needed a part. (so we didn’t get to use them during out stay). Main floor bathroom shower would not drain and would fill up and run over the edge on the floor if you continued to use it. Put a maintenance call in and the gentleman that responded said he fixed It, but it was the same way the next morning when used. Note: Left a Maintenance call when we checked out that it was still in need of fixing. Cabin was over run with Asian Lady Buggs. We used the vacuumed found on the first floor to sweep up at least 300-400 in each of the two upstairs bed rooms. Vacuumed up some on the first floor, but not as bad as the upstairs. (We reported them when we arrived and understood they were really bad in some areas of the and some areas had none this year). We just lived with them for the remainder of our Stay. With the exception from on of the toilet seats in one of the cabins being broke, everything was in working condition. If there was anything about this cabin that was not favorable, it would be the road to get to the cabin. To get that breathtaking view, you had to go very high on a narrow road, which wasn’t very good on your nerves. Otherwise our stay at this luxury cabin was perfect. The cabin itself was a beautiful cabin and had a well equipped kitchen. The house was decorated tastefully for Thanksgiving. The layout of the cabin was perfect for 2-3 families. There is construction on a new home below the cabin, but it did not bother us. Since we stayed for St. Patrick's Day weekend, we ventured into the town for the day. Surprisingly, Uber does come all the way out to the cabin!! And, it was only about $20 for the trip, which was about 40 minutes. Both Ubers that I had were really friendly and fun. Only downside to the rental was the long trip into the main strip of Gatlinburg, but with a fund Uber driver, it goes by quickly! Also, the driveway is SO steep. The air conditioner wasn't working. The first two days of our trip, we shared the cabin with a repairman. We ate dinner with the repairman standing near. One showed up in the morning (without notice) and we had to run and get dressed and juggle a cranky baby to let him in. I have a small infant and all this complicated our stay and we had NO privacy. I was shocked Elk Springs didn't offer us any compensation. I will never stay with them again. I've been staying in cabins here for over 10 years. I'll just go back to American Patriot Getaways. This is our third visit with Elk Springs and will be our last. We had no Wi-Fi during our entire week-long stay. Normally I wouldn’t have cared, but I was on a semi-working vacation and was forced to use my cell phone as a hotspot and burn up my data. We called and emailed their customer service multiple times and their service guys couldn’t fix it. Customer service kept promising to get back to us and they never did. They said they would review our case for a refund but they have ignored us for 2 weeks now. Every time I call they claim it is pending review. To add insult to injury, they called us within 45 minutes of checkout time to ask if we had a dog with us so they could charge us an additional $50 security deposit. My wife called to make the reservation and no one asked about the dog even though we were staying at a pet friendly cabin. They had no problem finding time to charge us extra but not enough time to review our case. In addition to the Wi-Fi issues complicating things, there were dead bugs around the Jacuzzi tub, popcorn, food, and toys under the couches. Also, the outdoor fireplace didn’t work and there were no curtains in the upstairs bedrooms. There was definitely no sleeping in when the sun came up. Our first stay at Rascal’s Retreat was a nice time. We had some issues during our second visit (a different cabin) but thought it was just a fluke. This third time is the last straw. Having technical issues is something that cannot be helped but being ignored and put off by the customer service is too much. There are plenty of other places to stay in Gatlinburg." The pictures don't even do it justice. We did encountered a couple of issues with checking in and the fact that the dishwasher was broken. We received a phone call that there would be a delay with our 3pm check in time and our cabin wouldn't be ready until 5pm which is kind of issue when you're driving in almost 9 hours and want to relax and unwind. The customer service that day was awful. The employee was very UNapologetic about the inconvenience, would not tell us what was the causing the delay or an approximate time when it would be ready, and even argued with my husband. After 5pm had come and gone we had to call them to see when it would be ready. Finally got the code at 5:45 and was told to call back the next day to talk to a manager. The manager was very nice but did tell us that 3pm is a "target" check in time and no refunds are given for any type of delay. We were also finally told that the issue had been fixed and the last thing holding up the cabin was the hot tub being filled and that we would have been let in to bring in our luggage and groceries. The kitchen is beautiful too. The master suites are amazing. The only negatives from our visit: The dishwasher was broke and never repaired (sign on it says its awaiting parts). Secondly, the high speed internet. Imagine using dial up internet. Then imagine something 10 to 20 times slower than dial up. That's the high speed internet available. You'll be lucky to be able to check your email. If you plan on getting any work done while you're there, then plan using a hot spot via your phone. With Sprint I was able to get LTE." We will definitely be back and we will always use Elk Springs to book our vacation in the mountains. There was not enough lighting in the house it was usually very dim lighting and none of the upstairs rooms had blinds so we were up when the sun came up. These little things were issues that we came across that makes our rating a 4 star. The view from the cabin is absolutely gorgeous and it is very secluded so if your looking to get away and not hearing any noise it is perfect. On our checkout date we were packing up our things into the car at 9am and the team that was there to clean the house was practically rushing us out of the cabin which was upsetting and very unprofessional since checkout was not until 10am." I have stayed with many different companies and have always enjoyed my trips to the mountains. I saw a Groupon for Elk Springs and bought it only to find out my trip was excluded by dates and cabin selection and ultimately could not be used. During the planning period as well as while at the cabin I called Elk Springs many times and always got voicemail, generally with a returned call hours or days later. When I got to the cabin after a lengthy drive, it was not ready at 3PM as they had told me it would be, but rather not for another hour. The gas grill did not work, nor did the DVD player. The sheets smelled bad, like they had not been changed in some time. As the power was out my first morning in the cabin, I had no way to cook food and called for hours for help with the grill, only to get voicemail each time, and then a different person returning my call a little later each time, only to say, "Let me check on that and call you back", then never to hear from that person again, at which time I would wait again, then call again, then go through the same thing with someone else. All total it took five hours of calling to get maintenance to the cabin. For the money I was spending, I would expect MUCH better service than I got with Elk Springs. However, the cabin could use a good cleaning (was dusty in some areas, dead bugs on the window sills and in the showers, and some areas had not been thoroughly vacuumed, such as the rug under the dining table.) The biggest problem we had was the bugs. Because it was unseasonably warm, there was a massive infestation of Asian beetles, hundreds of them in our luggage, in the beds - everywhere. Maintenance came out and took care of the problem within a few hours, but later that evening we saw several cockroaches in the kitchen, bathrooms, and in one of the bedrooms. In addition to that, there were ladybugs and stink bugs coming in at every possible window and door opening. The cabin is beautiful, but we won't be going back until it is properly treated for pest control. The gorgeous view is not worth putting up with all the bugs and pests!" The rental was just as pictured, and the view is for sure one to remember. We had a few maintenance issues and they were resolved quickly and professionally. If you're looking for privacy and an escape from it all, this is the cabin for you, it is in with maybe 8 other cabins, but we never heard or saw anything but nature. Plenty of room for everyone to spread out, or plenty of space for us all to be together. The hot tub and pool table were a hit. A few issues should be handled to make it even better.....there is no light by the hot tub for those who wanted to be out there later at night, the deck needed redone, several handles in the kitchen were missing or broke off drawers or cupboards, and the TV in the loft wasn't hooked to anything to allow for watching in the loft, very minor issues, but should be fixed to make cabin perfect. It was cool at night and we wished we could turn on the fireplace to enjoy from the deck while getting in and out of the hot tub but we were told they're only on October-March.
