Clear Lake is the major recreation attraction in Lake county. The lake is more than 19 miles long and 9 miles wide at it's widest point and is the largest natural lake in the state of California and the oldest lake in North America. Average depth is 28 feet with water temperatures varying from the low 40's in winter to the mid 70's in summer. It has 100 miles of shoreline and is circled by 60 miles of scenic roads. Clear Lake is at an elevation of 1,320 feet. The lake is surrounded by resorts, many which have marinas and launch ramps. There are also 11 free public ramps around the lake. Complete services are available in the city of Lakeport. Clear Lake is a shallow body of water with many grassy flats, brush covered banks and abundant tule growth. Much of it's shore is lined with privately-owned resorts, residences and boat docks. During seasonal weather fronts winds can create 3' to 4' waves in the open areas of the lake. The largest natural freshwater lake completely within California, Clear Lake attracts anglers, boaters, skiers and swimmers year after year to the communities of Lake County. In fact, Clear Lake is well-known for its outdoor recreational opportunities, but many people do not identify the famous lake with the county in which it is centered. Known as the Bass Capital of the West, Clear Lake has more than 43,000 surface acres, ample space for fishing, swimming, sailing, waterskiing, jet skiing, parasailing, kayaking, kneeboarding, and other water sports.

Fishing Information
The bass fishing is so good that the professional bass fishing organizations, such as U.S. Bass, Cal Bass, and Western Bass, have designated Clear Lake as the number one bass lake in the nation, based on numbers of fish caught. Pro and amateur anglers can cast their lines at several "hot spots" in Clear Lake to catch Florida strain largemouth black bass, yellow and blue channel catfish, crappie, and bluegill. Boating Information
There are 11 public boat launch ramps along the shore of Clear Lake. Fishing boats are available to rent, and local retailers sell a variety of fishing equipment. Several guides in the area offer their services for fishing Clear Lake. Several businesses around the lake rent water ski boats and equipment, jet skis, wave runners, pontoons, kayaks, pedal boats, and paddle and row boats. Two businesses offer parasail rides, one near Library Park in Lakeport, and the other at Konocti Harbor Resort & Spa near Kelseyville. Clear Lake is home to the NorCal Boat & Ski races each summer, and it draws a contingent of seaplane owners and flyers for the annual "Splash In" event. Model seaplane enthusiasts often converge in Lake County for a meet.
