Turtleback Lodge is a unique cabin in a unique location. Being surrounded on three sides by water gives guests a view of water when looking out of every single window in the cabin! Enjoy relaxing, playing in the water, taking a lazy paddleboat ride into the quiet cove or taking out your boat for any water sport you like. There is nothing to match the beauty of the sunsets over the lake- who says Key West has a corner on sunsets?? Having coffee in the early morning in the gazebo while the mist on the lake burns away, fish jump, birds of all sorts take flight.... heaven!! A fire pit placed out by the lake allows relaxing with the ones you love while grilling hot dogs or roasting marshmallows while an awesome show of stars twinkle overhead. Stay on site and enjoy endless fishing, swimming, paddleboating, sunbathing, grilling and relaxing. Ending the day soaking in the hot tub on the front porch is sure to be the doctor's order for a good night's sleep!
Or venture out and enjoy year round golf, local dining and other activities such as tennis, bowling, mini-golf, paintball, and biking. Visit some of the many local cultural activities such as the Greenwood Arts Council, Community Theatre and Museum. Be sure to check for seasonal festivals and celebrations. Drive a little farther... an hour to an hour and a half or so...and find mountain trails, waterfalls, parks, concerts, and dining and shopping to suit almost any taste and desire.
Bring along your furry friend and let him ride the paddle boat, swim in the cool waters or curl up under the swing on the porch. Your best friend is sure to be fascinated by the jumping fish, the cranes as they lazily take flight or just new places to sniff and run. Let tension go as you relax on the swinging bed in the cozy bedroom corner of the porch as the ceiling fan lulls you into dream land, relaxing to the sounds of frogs and crickets and the water lapping at the shore. As one guest commented about the swinging bed: "it's like being on a cruise because all you can see is water"!
Sleeping quarters include two bedrooms, one with a double bed and the other with queen bed, twin daybeds in the den and the twin size swinging bed in the bedroom corner of the enclosed porch. Each bed is made up, fresh and inviting with linens and towels supplied for your needs. Although there is sleeping space for 7 people, we definitely do NOT recommend trying to use the swinging bed on the porch as your place to sleep during the heat of the summer.
Our full kitchen has all the extras we could think of, including a blender, coffee maker, crock pot, deep fryer and all sorts of drink glasses! For cool mornings you can knock off the chill by firing up the gas log heater in the kitchen.
If you haven't been to TBL in a while there are a few additions.... a diving board on the floating dock has been a favorite. A picnic table in the BBQ house has made eating out there more fun and we are just finishing up in the kitchen (March 2013) with some needed updates: new cabinets, counter tops, dishwasher, stove and sink. We maintain the character of the cabin with every change we make but do all we can to have modern convinces and a few "extra" when possible.
Because Turtleback Lodge is a hand built log cabin, built in the late 50's and early 60's with hand hewn logs, we are very aware of the need for some special precautions and care. We are firm in the **** NO SMOKING **** provision and ask that you understand that this simply is not the rental for you if you enjoy smoking. Please understand that smoking is not allowed anywhere on the property. You are responsible for any friends you invite to visit when you are a guest at TBL. We want to be up front about this so there are no 'surprises' for people when they find the information in the contract.
The fact that we are on a peninsula means we have over 1000 feet of shore line for fishing and exploring. We also have a boat ramp on site.
We supply information at the cabin so you have directions and driving distances for stores, restaurants, and also a place to rent a boat or jet skis close to the cabin, where to buy bait, a fishing license or go see a movie. We do all we can to make sure our guests have their needs met and beyond. The feedback we get helps us plan for improvements and new ways to make Turtleback Lodge a place our guests want to return to over and over again.
We have by no means a large cabin- our bedrooms and the bathroom are small- but we are happy to provide a unique, special place, unlike any other on the lake. A recent comment in our journal left in the cabin for guests' comments: "We have rented a lot of places and yours is the best!". If there is any information you need please feel free to email or call during the business hours listed below. (9AM-6PM Mon-Sat.).... thanks!

A patio off of the kitchen has a table and chairs and umbrella for shade. The detached screened-in barbecue house has a gas grill as well as a chimney fire pit that can be used for charcoal grilling. There is also a floating boat dock, a fixed pier with gazebo overlooking the swimming area, and a private boat ramp. Satellite TV and a DVD player are provided. A paddleboat is also provided. New last winter- a fire pit that you can enjoy out by the lake. In the winter season when the water level is low, our cabin has a nice sandy beach out by the gazebo. "We stayed at Turtleback Lodge over our spring break with our two golden retrievers. What a find! Having the lake on three side of the house was wonderful. The cabin had every convenience we could ask for, but was rustic at the same time. The decorating is unique, and the boat in the rafters of the living room even has a light! We've traveled a lot and have rented houses in the states and in Mexico. This one was the best for the price and location. A great getaway."
Mar 31, 2010 - Denise Hay "Our family made memories at the magical cottage that will last a lifetime. Beverlee and Mart have gone out of their way to make the place sparkling clean and extremely welcoming. The striking peninsula setting has to be seen to be believed. You will feel truly transported. The Greenwood Lake water, as enjoyed from Turtleback Lodge, greeted us with mist on the surface each morning at sunrise, endless hours of warm-water swimming and play during the day, and an enchanted starlit view from the gazebo each evening. After just a few days, we feel we have left part of our hearts at this much-beloved and well-cared-for cottage. Thank you for sharing such a very special place. We'll be back!"

My husband and I indulged ourselves with a two week vacation at this lakeside cabin for his 40th birthday and our 10th anniversary and had a wonderful vacation, everything was perfect. We chose this property because of its proximity to the water, abundant fishing and 400 ft of lake front views. We rented a boat, explored the whole lake, and were visited daily by all sorts of wildlife, including a pair of ducks, a baby turtle and a Grey Heron. Our hosts Beverlee and Mart, were just a phone call away, and very accessible, instantly responding to any and all questions/problems (Thank you Mart and Beverlee!). We had easy access to restaurants, etc but also appreciated the quiet and secluded nature of Turtleback Lodge, where everyone is friendly and dogs are loved. We hope to return next year and recommend this clean and comfortable cabin to any one looking for a quiet, family vacation. It is truly a family treasure we will remember forever.

Jun 21, 2011 - Katherine Kivela "My wife and I spent five days, six nights at Turtleback. Magical time. Our lab, Harley found
out that swimming is fun, (he hates water, or did). We cruised the lake, swam, fished (caught
a few), and just relaxed. Cabin was perfect, well
appointed and situated.

Aug 14, 2011 - Jerry Sigur "We have just returned from a wonderful, relaxing vacation at Turtle Back Lodge. This cabin is so charming and quaint, supplied with your every need. Mart and Beverlee have created a haven and we are blessed that they share it with others! We fished, swam, boated, and then shopped in neighboring areas. In the evenings we witnessed beautiful sunsets while roasting s'mores and watching the lake activity. You cannot go wrong staying at TBL!! Thanks again Mart and Beverlee."
Sep 07, 2011 - Tracy and Patti Rogers "My family has been to the beach, mountains and to Disney but this is by far the best vacation we have ever taken. So many times I would come back from vacation absolutely worn out and in need of time to recover before going back to work--but not this time. I feel relaxed and refreshed. I spent my time sleeping, reading, napping and baiting my wife's hook. The cabin was well cared for and decorated with skill that adds to its nostalgia. I was taken back several decades to a quieter and more peaceful time. Thank you for sharing your treasure with us. We will be back. "

Our family had an amazing time at TBL! It was exactly what we had hoped for: quiet, relaxing, peaceful, private, natural and beautiful. It offered us the ease to enjoy all the things we love to do on vacation: swim, ski, boating, tubing, resting, reading, bonfire, yard games....family time together. The cabin was so full of charm and character. The Simmons think of everything and we were not in want of anything! All the necessities of home were there when we arrived. We even found stocked word search books and puzzles to keep us entertained on our rainy day. (We went antique shopping at Granny K's also on our rainy day) The cabin itself and the lot it's on could not have been more ideal. It's both rustic and yet modernly convenient. Favorites: (Husband) LOVED the Bass fishing and caught many "keepers" every day. He was in fishing heaven. (10 yr old daughter) Becoming "friends" with the smaller fish in the boat dock "pool" area. She put her camping chair in the shallow water and all the fish swam up to her and she loved them all. (Me/Mom) I loved the cabin and the proximity to the water. We were just steps to the water from any angle of the cabin. I also loved that the lake is not very busy and it felt like "ours" much of the time. We all loved the occasional train that would pass by on the bridge too! The lake itself is pristine and uncluttered by too many houses and cramped lots. It was so beautiful and natural. We wouldn't change a thing. It was the hardest vacation for any of us to leave. It's been 2 weeks and I am not convinced we are even "home" yet. We are already looking forward to our next visit! One last note: We've had some amazing vacations and have dealt with many kind people but no one comes close to comparing to the service we received from the Simmons; they're good people. "
Jun 29, 2012 - Karel Harris "Renting a vacation home via the internet can be a little uncertain. When I arrived at Turtleback for a much needed getaway, all I could say was WOW. It is a perfect location if you are looking for some rest and relaxation. It is children friendly and there is a nice swimming area with steps that is shallow enough for small children to play in safety. It is everything the owners say and more. Their attention to detail is unmatched and the house is immaculate while being rustic at the same time. My only problem was I did not want to leave. I think anyone who stays there will feel the same way. "
Jul 15, 2012 - Elizabeth Stiles "This was a beautiful location for a cabin. What a relaxing paradise this was for us.You could see water from every window! We loved relaxing on the porch swing or bed, board games on a lazy afternoon, watching a DVD with a fire on a cool evening, a ride around the cove in the paddleboat, grilling in the BBQ House, etc. We loved watching the sunrise & sunset all from the front porch. No detail was left out when planning for guests at this cabin. The kitchen was stocked with everything needed for cooking. Loved that we could bring our dog. She loved laying right inside the front porch door. Plenty of room for our one year old crawling son to move around & explore in the cabin and outside on all the grass. Beverlee was wonderful to work with. She answered all our questions & made our first vacation booked online a pleasure. We're already planning to come back & telling man friends and relatives about this little slice of heaven.Thank you for opening your property to others. We LOVED it!"
