"Our stay at Dr. and Mrs. Brobstons was wonderful. We had all of the peace and quiet that we had hoped to find in going to South Georgia.
You will be right on the lake as shown in the pictures. We simply walked to the dock and got into the boat.We went there on our Honeymoon and loved it.We highly recommend the Brobstons Getaway and will definately be going back ourselves. The Brobstons themselves were very kind and considerate,we are happy to count them as friends. And last but definately not least, the fishing was great."
Apr 07, 2006 - Perry E. Gates "We have stayed at the lakehouse twice. Each times the facilities have improved. The screened in porch is our favorite place to sit and eat breakfast as the sun rises and cool off to the lulling sounds of the lake at night. Our three small children could not love it more, especially being able to walk 25 yard and be on the dock. One morning my wife and I woke to the two older children fishing on their own!
The airconditioning system is top notch althoug we usually opt to open the screened windows and let the fans guide a refreshing breeze through the place. To be honest it feels like taking a vacation on an efficient, comfortable yacht. Sleeping quarters are cozy and there is plenty of room for eating and relaxing. Being in beautiful South Georgia we are outside almost the entire time anyway!
There is a public lake beachfront with sand and picnic tables withing a few blocks that accesses another part of the lake. The kids LOVE that. And there's a public boat launch for you."
Apr 14, 2006 - S Holloway B "I had the pleasure of staying at this quiet retreat for four days. If you are looking for a relaxing stay on Lake Mayers, this is a beautiful spot to to be. I sat out at night and enjoyed the chirp of the crickets and the croke of the frogs! Early morning tea on the screened in porch, watching fish jump and the birds wake to the day... Be the first one up to throw a line in and catch your breakfast! I would love to stay again sometime soon. Thank you to Sandy and Stan Brobston for all you did for a great stay. Kaye Morrow"

Apr 15, 2009 - Sarita Pettus "Stayed at Stan’s pad while visiting my mother in Mershon, Ga., yes you probably need to check the map to find it. Very quiet and peaceful. Great morning sunrise with coffee on the back porch. Caught about a 2 lb bass off the dock over toward the trembling island, the neighbor witnessed the event if you are skeptical. Saw a couple of large red headed woodpeckers out front filling up on whatever from the large tree to the right of the home, looking from the front porch. Was visited by Buckey the beaver close to the dock one late afternoon, he said he was just cruising through the neighborhood, very nice fellow. Was a great stay will be back to do some serious fishing with my son in the lake at a future date."

Jul 03, 2009 - Ruby Mercer "June 13-20, 2009
This was our first stay at the lakehouse, we found it to be very clean, very peaceful and quiet. The screened in sunporch was my favorite place to be because it was serene and beautiful. My husband and children enjoyed the fishing and caught many fish (cast out towards the "island"). We visited the nearby beach several times (it's less than a mile away) and found it to be very clean and nice, our kids enjoyed it alot. We will definitely be back, our entire week was peaceful and fun, a welcome break for a busy family. "
Jul 08, 2009 - James and Emilee Durham "A great place for quiet time with family. I really enjoyed the early mornings on the screen porch watching the sun come up. Our grandchildren enjoyed paddling around the island and fishing. We all enjoyed the beautiful lake. "

Sep 21, 2009 - Thomas & Maryann Tracey "I stayed at the retreat in December and it was wonderful. There are more activities to do in the summer, but those looking for peace, quiet and beautiful scenery should look into renting in the winter months. I did not see another person; it was so nice to have coffee on the porch and catch up on my reading. The house was cozy and after staying there a week, it felt like home. I would like to thank Stan and Sandy Brobston for being so accomodating. I look forward to renting again!"
Jan 25, 2010 - Clair McKinnon "We made it a girls weekend during the Baxley Tree Fest Tri and we had an awesome time. We napped on the porch after the race on Saturday and then laid out on the dock. Duke Mayers, one of the neighbor dogs enjoyed the sun bathing with us on the dock. "The Retreat" was a very peaceful and relaxing Mother's Day weekend and are planning return trips already where we bring our jet ski's and play on the water."
May 10, 2010 - Jennifer Cox "We have had the pleasure of staying at this lake getaway on more than one occasion and we enjoy it even more every time! The cozy accomodations not only include all of the neccessities (very well stocked kitchen), but also some very thoughtful touches (ie. a radio to enjoy out on the dock and family friendly dvds). Our favorite spot is definitely the spacious back porch and there is abundant seating for us as well as our friends (very comfortable seating...that's where we love to take afternoon naps in between water sports on the lake). A big part of what keeps us coming back is the graciousness of the owners. I would highly reccomend this lake getaway to all of my friends and loved ones."
Jun 14, 2010 - Crystal Winn "Great lakefront retreat! So peaceful and relaxing. We took the jon boat out twice and seen most all of the lake, so beautiful. This place is on the quite end of the lake, and we look forward to going back in a couple weeks for a few more days of R&R!
Thanks much Stan and Sandy!"
Aug 19, 2010 - W K P "Once again we enjoyed a very relaxing few days at the retreat. So very peaceful. Also appreciate all the help from Stan on where to eat!
Thanks much,
W & K
"
Sep 02, 2010 - WKP "We spent a wonderful and very relaxing week here and could not have been happier. Very quiet, very peaceful and very friendly neighbors. The weather was absolutely perfect and we both enjoyed the back porch and dock tremendously. The sunrise and sunsets are breath-taking. Perfect place for a get away from the hustle and bustle of this crazy world. We will be back next year. Stan and Sandy were super nice and had everything ready for us and the place was neat and clean. Highly recommend this place to all who are looking for hide-away and true vacation."
Oct 22, 2010 - Rev Greg and Kathy Crocker "Thanks to our gracious hosts, the Brobstons, for providing such a quiet and peaceful place of solitude to get away from the hustle and bustle of the world. We were at their "retreat" the week of 10/19 - 10/26/2010 and the weather couldn't have been better.....an added bonus. The back porch, the view and the swing were favorites and will be missed. A very restful time for sure.
Mike & Sue Mullendore, St. Augustine, FL"
Oct 27, 2010 - Mike & Sue Mullendore ""The Retreat" We loved it! You can tell Stan and Sandy put lots of love and care into keeping the place a home away from home for their guests. They are the nicest of people. I will definitely stay again. Peace, quiet, and all the amenities of home. Plus, a boat to enjoy the lake. You can fish off the dock, grill out, build a fire or just relax by the lake in the swing. For entertainment there is satellite tv, dvd player, cd player, etc. We absolutely loved eating our meals on the large screened porch overlooking the lake. I highly recommend "The Retreat"."
May 29, 2011 - Christine Nease "I stayed at the retreat for nearly 4 months while working at Plant Hatch (20-25 min drive). You can't beat this place for the price. The Brobstons have gone to great lengths to make this place reall feal like a home away from home. You will not miss any comforts of home when staying here. On a couple of occassions I had my family over for a weekend. We were able to hang out on the porch and play cards, grill, fish, and watch plenty of football. It slept 6 people easily. I also caught a couple of decent size large mouth bass right off of the dock.
Note: One thing that I don't think fully appreciated by the pictures that Stan has uploaded is the size of the backyard and the screened in back porch. The back porch is probably about 75% the size of the entire house. There is also a convenient screened in front porch."
Jan 20, 2012 - Mark "Staying at the Lkaehouse was great! It is a very peaceful quiet place with friendly neighbors. It was very well equipped with all kinds of amenities. There are 2 Walmarts within a 15-20 minute drive. It is a great place to get away from the hustle & bustle without having to be too far from it. We were very pleased to stay there!
"
Feb 09, 2012 - Sonia James "We enjoyed the lakehouse; it was very relaxing and beautiful, especially since it is right on the lake. We loved the boat-- so much fun! The home was in good condition and well supplied. We were pleased with our stay and would recommend the rental home if you are interested in a relaxing vacation. One more note: it was so convenient to have washer and dryer and also that Walmart was close by."
Apr 26, 2012 - The Dockery's "We stayed at "The Retreat" Labor Day weekend 2012...it was amazing. The Brobstons made our stay very comfortable. The home was nicely decorated and very comfortable. Everything you could possibly need is already there for you. Jason and I enjoyed the fishing..lots of nice size bream. We look forward to returning. Thank you Stanley and Sandy!"
